Peking University Institute of Advanced Agricultural Sciences and Its Collaborators Unveil the Regulatory Mechanism of Carotenoid Biosynthesis in Chili Fruits

Recently, researchers from the Peking University Institute of Advanced Agricultural Sciences in cooperation with the College of Horticulture of South China Agricultural University and other units have jointly published a research paper in The Plant Journal. The paper, titled "An R-R-type MYB transcription factor promotes nonclimacteric pepper fruit carotenoid pigment biosynthesis," elucidates the transcriptional regulatory mechanism of capsanthin biosynthesis in chili peppers. The study represents the first identification of a key regulatory gene in capsanthin biosynthesis, delineates the mechanism of ABA signal-mediated biosynthesis of carotenoids in non-climacteric chili fruits, and discovers the evolutionary mechanism of differential regulation of capsanthin biosynthesis in the Solanaceae family. This lays a crucial groundwork for the genetic enhancement of chili pepper coloration.
