Cell Research | Collaboration between Jizong Wang and Xing Wang Deng’s Research Groups Reveals the Molecular Mechanism for the High Photosensitivity of Plant Far-red Light Receptor phyA

On July 25, 2023, the two research teams lead by Jizong Wang and Xing Wang Deng published a joint research paper titled "Structural insights into plant phytochrome A as a highly sensitized photoreceptor" in Cell Research. They deciphered the high-resolution cryo-electron microscopy structures (with resolutions of 3.0 Å, 3.3 Å, and 3.8 Å respectively) of three full-length proteins: the AtphyA-Pr of dicotyledonous Arabidopsis, the ZmphyA1-Pr of monocotyledonous corn, and apo-AtphyA of Arabidopsis not binding with PΦB. Combined with spectral absorption analysis, they revealed in detail the molecular basis for the high photosensitivity and physiological function specificity of plant phyA.
