The "Xishan Conference" strives to establish itself as a high-end technology forum with wide international influence, following the models of the Gordon Research Conferences and "Fragrant Hills Science Conferences". Each year, during late May to early June, the conference is held by the picturesque banks of the Xishan Lake. The "Xiashan Conference" covers important areas of modern agricultural technology, focusing on the scientific theories, methodologies, and application issues of modern agriculture. Committee members for each conference are selected based on the annual theme. Themes are selected for their foundational, foresight, and strategic aspects, specifically regarding questions of originality. Each theme emphasizes the exploration of the scientific frontier, foresees future trends, discusses breakthrough advancements, exchanges new academic thoughts and methodologies, and analyzes the trends and new disciplines. Moreover, the conference discusses issues concerning technology policies, management, and development strategies, providing consultative recommendations. The conference invites renowned experts from related areas both domestically and internationally to present keynote speeches. Each conference planning to last for two days comprises keynote speeches, focused reports, and round-table discussions.

The theme for the "Xiashan Conference" of 2024 is "Promoting High-Quality Agricultural Development through Efficient Use of Plant Nutrient". The conference will cover various elements such as genetic improvements for efficient crop nutrition, microbiomes and functions of soil-plant systems, and the interplay between plant nutrition and sustainable agriculture.
