ABOUT US
The Peking University Institute of Advanced Agricultural Sciences, hereinafter referred to as the "Institute" or PKU-IAAS, is a public institute jointly established by Peking University and the People's Government of Shandong Province, and is an innovative research and development unit. On July 10, 2016, Professor Xing Wang Deng facilitated the signing of a memorandum to construct the Institute amongst the Shandong Provincial Government, Tel Aviv University in Israel, and Peking University. Following this, Tel Aviv University would be recognized as an academic collaboration unit. On August 18, 2017, the Shandong Provincial Government and Peking University officially signed an agreement to jointly establish the Institute, and the construction of the Institute's campus commenced on June 15, 2018. As of July 10, 2021, the Institute campus was open, and was authorized to serve as a National Natural Science Foundation research project host institution on January 5, 2022. The institute was designed to operates under the proposition of a Council-lead Director Responsibility system, with Academician Xing Wang Deng serving as Director.
On July 5, 2021, the Shandong Laboratory of Advanced Agricultural Sciences in Weifang, herein abbreviated as the "Provincial Laboratory," was started to develop with the Institute as its core base. Guided by the strategic objectives of the nation and the critical needs of Shandong Province, the Provincial Laboratory aims to join the ranks of National Laboratory candidate or become a member of the National Laboratory Network, with its focus on major scientific frontier issues in modern agriculture. The Laboratory is committed to solving pivotal technical challenges that impede progress, striving to create an innovative agriculture research core that is leading-edge, platform-integrated and globally influential.
